Ugh! Tonight we stay in a hovel. Dank, miserable, infested... these words do nothing to describe the true squalor and unpleasantness of my surroundings as I write this. This is the last time I let that gutter-trash Eliane find our accomodations!

The journey so far has been uneventful. There were some boars on the road which impeded us for a time, and scared Kalika. I thought to offer her some comfort, but I think she may be the indignant type.
We are now in Meore. Ah, but it is good to have a bath again! A ship is undoubtedly the most unpleasant form of transport imaginable. Since the entire unit bar myself and Eliane are unable to speak Algandave, it was up to me to find somewhere to stay. I thought that everyone would appreciate a soft bed and some decent service after that miserable voyage, so I found us some reasonably nice appointments. The others seem overly impressed, and strangely ungrateful.

It seems that we are to pose as traders for the overland leg of our journey. We trade in cloth, apparently. We set off tomorrow.
Today I (and my little unit) were made to do combat training. This pointless exercise involved capturing a house from a patrol of "enemy" guards. With only one other competent fighter in the group, it was up to me to both concieve of a plan, and take the active role in its execution. At least there weren't too many objections from the others.

The outcome was, of course, victory for me. My prowess with sword and dagger proved too great for all opponents. One of the unwashed scum almost managed to hit me with a crossbow, so I felt it a point of honor to deal with him. And that treacherous wench Eliane tripped me as I was vaulting over a wall! I shall have to watch her, I think she may be a little hot-headed, and unable to deal well with competition.

As for the others, well, most seem to be at least competent with a bow. I'm not sure I would want Kalika at my back in a dangerous situation, though. A little unreliable, though a pretty face.

Anyway, we are to set off for Algandy in the next few days. Our mission is to discover all we can about some mysterious reports of flying castles and great black ships in the Gap. The idea sounds ridiculous, and I suspect that certain Legionnaires may have been supping a little too much of certain exotic substances.
Today I was called to join a unit. A more rag-tag bunch of scruffy peons I could not imagine encountering. We have been set under the command of one Meloniel. She seems a little vague. Still, with commanding officers like these, the prospects for promotion in the near future are greatly increased. The future is looking brighter every day.
It has been almost a month now that I have been with the Legion of Light. Damn my father for sending me here to live with these uncultured thugs! This is his idea of discipline?
